MoU signed in May 2011 in the area of Vocational Education and Training between Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India  and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). (MoU linked)

Indo-German Joint Working Group (JWG) formed  as the platform for dialogue and exchange of  information to facilitate co-operation, foster partnerships and review progress in the field of VET. Six meeting of the JWG held till now, 7th meeting of the JWG to be held in India this year

Competency based curriculum being designed with German experts. A three member delegation from CSTARI, Kolkata visited Germany and attended one week training program on “Vocational Education and Training” from 26th to 30th November, 2012. This team studied competency levels and standards of Germany. Competency Based curricula in two trades viz Fitter and Electrician have been developed by a team of officials at CSTARI.

One batch of twenty master trainers (10 each in Mechatronics & Metal Cutting trades) trained for 45 days in Germany in Oct – Dec, 2012. Before the 6th Indo German JWG at Dresden, Germany, DG/JS met the participants of the first batch of Master Trainers at Chennai (on 28 June 2013); to find out the effectiveness and the extent to which DGE&T is benefitting by organizing such training programs.  Later on, this training was also discussed in the 6th JWG meeting (8-9 July 2013),  chaired by Secretary (L&E) and also attended by AS/FA, wherein this training program was found largely successful

Forty master trainers in four batches to be sent in next two years in the area of Mechatronics, Robotics & Automation, Welding and Electrical & Electronics

“Training facility in the area of Energy – Efficient Construction Technology to be developed jointly with Germany” was  included in joint statement released during the visit of Hon’ble PM to Berlin on 11th April, 2013.  During 6th JWG meeting Indian side  identified National Construction Academy, Hyderabad to partner with BfW, Germany .

FICCI, CII and NSDC are also member in JWG and actively taking part in all meetings of  JWG. These organizations are engaged in Business to Business activitiesl with German Agencies for Knowledge support and establishment of "Sector Skill Councils" and promotion of German-Indian private industry initiatives in vocational education and training

The Ambassador of India at Berlin has sent a DO letter to Secretary L&E requesting to suggest a date for the 7th JWG. He has also suggested that the matter of VET also involves close coordination within the Government between Ministry of Labour & Employment, Ministry of HRD and MSME and they are important stakeholders in the process and that they may also be included in the delegation.
