ADVANCED TRAINING INSTITUTE, DASNAGAR, HOWRAH. The Advanced Training Institute popularly known as ATI Calcutta was established on 23.9.1961 as pioneer training institute under DGET, Ministry of Labour, Govt. of India. ATI Calcutta is located at Dasnagar, Howrah, adjacent to the Howrah Industrial Estate and about 9 km. from Howrah Railway station. It is well connected by Local trains and by road transport. The primary function of this Institute is to train the Vocational Instructors of various Industrial Training Institutes/ Centres and other training establishment .The institute also conduct training courses under Craftsmen Training Scheme & Short term duration courses for industrial workers under AVTS scheme . Courses under Craft Instructor Training This Institute conducts one year regular training courses for vocational instructor of ITIs / ITCs to provide comprehensive training in Skill development and Principle of Teaching . It also conduct short duration special refresher courses to update and upgrade the knowledge and skill of the instructor and to keep them abreast of technological development of industry . Facilities to conduct one year instructor training programme are available in the trades of Carpenter , Draughtsman( Civil), Draughtsman ( Mech.) , Electrician , Fitter , Forger and Heat Treater , Grinder , Machinist , Mechanic Ref. & Air . Cond., Mechanic( Motor Vehicle), Moulder., Reading of Drawing , Sheet Metal Worker , , Turner, Welder Entry level requirements i) passed matriculation or equivalent examination. ii) Diploma in Engineering recognized by the Government and relevant to the trade or National Apprenticeship Certificate in respective trade or National Trade Certificate in respective trade with one year experience either in a reputed industry or in a training organisation. iii) Age : Between 18 to 40 years.. Time of admission - August every year. Mode for admission The course commences from 1st August every year and applications for admission are invited through the advertisement in Employment News and other leading newspapers during the month of May/June every year. Eligibility for Admission : Preference is given to the deputed Instructor trainees from Government ITI s /ITCs sponsored by the state Government. The Private candidates who are matriculate and have passed the recognised Diploma course in Engineering/National Apprenticeship Certificate /National Trade Certificate in the respective trade with one year experience may be considered for admission subject to the availability of seats in the trade. Model Training Institutes attached to ATI, Dasnagar, Howrah , presently conduct training programme in the trades of Forger & Heat Treater , Carpenter , Sheet & Metal Worker , Computer Operator & Programming Asstt., Draughtmen , Electrician , Fitter , Machinist(Grinder), Instrument Mecahanic , Welder (G&E) , Draughtsman (Civil), Pattern Maker , Machinist , Turner, Cutting & Tailoring , Information Technology & Electronics System Maintenance . The trainees of these courses after completition of the prescribed training appear in the All India Trade Test held under the aegis of NCVT along with trainees of ITIs/ ITCs held in July every year .The successful trainees are awarded National Trade Certificate . Advanced Vocational Training Scheme (AVTS)(Short term training courses for industrial workers) The institute also offers short-term modular courses of 2 to 6 weeks duration in Advanced Skill areas in order to update the skills of serving industrial workers, technicians and first line supervisors to become specialised in their field of work. At present, the institute offers courses in the following areas. 1. Tool Design, 2.Metrology and Inspection, 3.Machine Tool Maintenance, 4.Microprocessors and Industrial Electronics 5.Advanced Refrigeration & Air-conditioning, 6.Electrical Maintenance & Electronic Control, 7.Advanced Welding, 8.Pneumatic & Hydraulic control 9.Heat Treatment. The institute also offers Tailor-made courses suiting specific needs of industrial establishments depending upon the availability of infrastructure facilites . QUALIFICATION : NCVT certificate in relevant trade with experience in the same field of work or diploma in appropriate branch of Engineering. Qualification is relaxable for deputed candidates.
